Blades set for more Marcus talks

SHEFFIELD United are set for further talks this week over securing a Bramall Lane future for left-back Marcus Williams.

The player is due to make the final appearance of his three-month loan spell from Reading on Saturday when the Blades take on Rochdale at Bramall Lane.

Preliminary discussions have been held over the prospect of Williams returning at some stage and the player, enjoying regular first-team football, would be keen to come.

United will now look to clarify the situation by speaking to Reading and it is understood he doesn’t figure in the plans of boss Brian McDermott.

It would mean, of course, a permanent deal being set up should United be able to proceed - and Blades boss Danny Wilson has indicated during Williams’ time here that he’d like to keep the speedy left-back.

“I think he has done well and he brings something a little bit different to the table for us,” he said.

Williams, who comes from Doncaster, made his debut in the home defeat by Huddersfield in mid-September and has made 14 appearances since, missing just a couple of games through injury.

Meanwhile, defender Johnny Ertl continues his comeback when he plays for the Blades reserves at Port Vale tomorrow night.

It will be a third reserve- team outing for Ertl who has also played a private friendly.

It increases his chances of being available for a first-team return, although he has been on the bench for the past couple of games and got a brief appearance right at the end of the 1-0 win at Chesterfield.

James Beattie might have been among the substitutes on Saturday against Torquay but was not risked due to a slight calf injury.
