SHEFFIELD United’s summer recruitment drive continued to gather pace last night as Chris Porter, the former Derby County striker, became the latest addition to Danny Wilson’s squad.

Porter, who was linked with a move to Bramall Lane earlier this year, joined his new teammates in Malta this morning ahead of Monday’s friendly with Sliema Wanderers.

Despite seeing his career at Pride Park disrupted by injury, Porter is confident he can make an impact in League One next term.

“My main aim being a forward is to score goals and that’s something I’m desperate to do for Sheffield United,” he said.

“This club is one with expectations and that played a major role in me joining.

“I believe we’ve got a great chance.

“And, if the team is doing well and creating chances then I should be able to get among the goals.”

Porter, who was released by County at the end of last term, has previously represented Bury, Oldham and Motherwell.

The 27-year-old is contracted to United until the end of the 2012/13 campaign and follows Falkirk’s Ryan Flynn to South Yorkshire.

Dismissing concerns about his fitness, Porter added: “I’m over the injuries now and just want to get my career back on track.

“I’m ready for games.”
