SHEFFIELD United’s hierarchy will discuss the uncertainty surrounding John Pemberton’s future at Bramall Lane this weekend, The Star can reveal.
The League One club’s hierarchy are expected to hold a meeting within 24 hours of today’s League One fixture at Scunthorpe where the former United defender’s situation is likely to be the only item on the agenda.
United issued a statement last night acknowledging they are aware of speculation linking Pemberton with a move away from Bramall Lane.
Despite indications to the contrary yesterday, sources close to United have now confirmed that Pemberton, their director of academy coaching, has not tendered his resignation.
Although neither party was available for comment this morning, it seems certain the talks are designed to thrash the situation out.
Crawley Town were granted permission to approach Pemberton about their then managerial vacancy on the eve of the new season.
However, Pemberton elected not to accept the position and remained at Shirecliffe instead.
Pemberton has previously worked in a coaching capacity at Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
Indeed, he enjoyed a brief spell in caretaker charge at the City Ground before returning to South Yorkshire.
