Chesterfield: Cook is confident

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook has reiterated his promotion hopes despite not bringing in any new faces in the latter stages of the transfer window.

The Spireites, four points off the play-off zone, travel to Keith Hill’s Rochdale this afternoon desperate to stay above their hosts.

Cook said: “It’s easy for everybody to say what we should be doing, but we’ve spent heavily, that’s where we are and I have no problem with it.

“I have a squad now that I have to go with and I have no issues with it.”

Cook, whose team lead Rochdale by two points, added: “My job is to try and get this club promoted this season and anyone who thinks we’re writing this season off is in for a very rude awakening.

“We have got great players at the club and we should be getting more points than we’ve got at the minute. My job is to turn those performances into results.”

Conor Townsend looks likely to come into Chesterfield’s line-up as they look to end a run of three consecutive away defeats.
