Getting down with United

Loyal Blade: Shane Lowry could be a United player next season.

SHANE Lowry last night revealed he would be interested in staying at Sheffield United next season even if Micky Adams’ side are relegated to League One.

Lowry, on loan from Aston Villa, is scheduled to thrash-out his future with the Premier League club when he returns to the Midlands this summer.

United entertain Bristol City tomorrow knowing a defeat – depending on the outcome of this afternoon’s fixture between fellow strugglers Doncaster Rovers and Crystal Palace – could see them slide into the third tier of English football for the first time since 1988.

Lowry, who 12 months ago helped Leeds gain promotion to the Championship, said: “I haven’t spoken to anyone yet and I’m still under contract at Villa. So I’ve got to sit down with them and also the gaffer here.

“But I haven’t ruled it out, not at all. At the moment, though, I just want to focus on the game we’ve got left.

“I’ve not got a bad word to say about Villa but, obviously, if I’m not part of the plans there then I don’t want to stick around in the reserves.”

Lowry added: “I’ve played in League One before with Leeds so I know what it’s like. Sheffield United is still a massive club and it’s one which, in my opinion, really deserves to be in the Premier League let alone anywhere else.

“There’s still a chance we can stay up but even if we don’t then it will still be a massive club. And, if we do go down, then I’m sure we’d be among the favourites to go straight back-up.”
