Predictions: Chris Holt's look at the weekend's games

Chris Holt's Predictions

Last week's predictions went so badly wrong that I was going to ask my three year old to have a go instead this time. Alas, she was busy, so here goes...

Sheffield Wednesday v Fulham
It's one thing Carlos Carvalhal remaining positive but it is difficult to keep pointing to improvements and performances when the winless streak stretches to seven league games. He is right that some of the play has been encouraging but Wednesday have to start putting away their chances or soon the season will delve into the mediocrity of the last one. Fulham though, are in decent form and a draw could be the best Wednesday could come up with. Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1 Fulham 1

Rotherham United v Cardiff City
Bottom of the league, still without a win and constant speculation that the manager might be on his way...all is not rosy at the New York Stadium. And just when Millers fans are looking for a turnaround in fortunes, along come one of the best teams in the division in Cardiff City. Hard to see Steve Evans' men getting anything, unless the Bluebirds' are suffering an almighty hangover from their midweek defeat to Hull City. Chances are they'll be out to offer a response. Prediction: Rotherham 1 Cardiff City 3

Bradford City v Sheffield United (Sunday)
If few saw a defeat to Bury coming last weekend, then hardly any will have envisaged another reverse for the Blades at the hands of Colchester on Tuesday night. There's no need to be overly worried at that and a good performance at Valley Parade will go some way towards addressing the concerns of the display against Colchester particularly. The Blades have a good record up there and have lost just twice in the last 30 years; cant see that tally being added to this time. Prediction: Bradford 1 Sheffield United 2

Blackpool v Barnsley
The Reds turned in a superb display in beating Swindon Town 4-1 last weekend and that could be the result that kick starts a stuttering season. There's plenty of quality in Lee Johnson's side but until last week they had yet to prove it. Beleaguered Blackpool should offer little in the way of a threat. Prediction: Blackpool 0 Barnsley 2

Doncaster Rovers v Oldham
Rob Jones' first audition for the manager's job didn't go as planned last week but at least he's getting the chance to go again. James Coppinger says the players want Jones to pick up the post full-time but if that's the case then they'll have to start showing it on the pitch. Starting on Satuday. Prediction: Doncaster Rovers 1 Oldham 0

Coventry v Chesterfield
Going forward, the Spireites are a dream...if only they could keep them out at the other end. Two 3-3 draws in a row and settling for a point having led suggests a tightening at the back is well needed. This is week's opponents are pretty similar...somewhat porous at the back but with plenty of goals in them. Score draw then? Prediction: Coventry 2 Chesterfield 2
