Sheffield United are redoubling their efforts to recruit a new centre-forward before tonight’s deadline for new signings.
Nigel Clough, the League One club’s manager, is believed to be exploring several fresh leads in the transfer market following talks with Bramall Lane’s hierarchy earlier this week.
A striker capable of injecting pace into an attack already bolstered by the arrival of Billy Paynter from Doncaster Rovers is known to be United’s top priority ahead of tomorrow’s game against Crewe Alexandra.
Clough, who has also acquired the services of Stefan Scougall, John Brayford and Bob Harris since English football reopened for business on New Year’s Day, told The Star he is ready to wait until the loan window opens in order to secure his preferred options.
“We won’t be panicked into doing anything,” Clough said. “We won’t bring in people for the sake of doing something, they’ve got to be right.”
Meanwhile, United have rescheduled their home fixtures with Brentford and Peterborough for February 12 (kick-off 7.45pm) and March 4 (kick-off 7.30pm) respectively.
