Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson kicks off

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson has blasted the decision to alter the League One fixture schedule as the race for automatic promotion enters its decisive phase.

Wilson’s side will start their match against Stevenage tomorrow (5.20pm) knowing how arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday fared at Brentford earlier in the day after the Bramall Lane clash was moved for television coverage.

With the two teams vying for the runners-up spot behind champions Charlton Athletic, Wilson said: “At this stage of the season everyone should kick off at the same time.

“Otherwise I don’t think it’s very fair.

“This could be a defining game and it doesn’t change the fact that we’ll be going out there focused on three points, but if I was Sheffield Wednesday I don’t think I’d be very happy.

“The final matches always start at the same time. But things aren’t just won or lost in them.

“That happens over the course of the season.

“But we just have to accept it because, in football, TV is always right.”

Second-placed United, who are on course to attract a sell-out crowd, have prepared for their penultimate contest of the campaign a point ahead of Wednesday in third.

Wilson added: “Of course I’ll know how Sheffield Wednesday went on.

“I’ll know because it could affect certain decisions we make at certain stages of the game.

“It might turn out to be an advantage for us or it might not.

“You just never know.”
