Nigel Clough, the Sheffield United manager, hopes last weekend’s FA Cup success over Queens Park Rangers will inspire his team when they face Preston North End in today’s crucial League One encounter at Bramall Lane.
The visitors travelled to South Yorkshire last night boasting a 12 point cushion over their rivals as the race for automatic promotion approaches the half way stage.
But Clough, whose team are sixth, said: “The mood has been buoyant, but tired after the effort the lads put in on Sunday. Training was very light on Tuesday, but a bit heavier on Wednesday getting ready for the weekend.
“I don’t think we were too surprised by the performance down there, despite how good the opposition was. I think the 3-0 probably did us justice for once.”
