Lyle Taylor last night claimed Nigel Clough has put the steel back into Sheffield United, writes James Shield.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s fixture at Shrewsbury Town, the centre-forward also credited Chris Morgan with helping to galvanise Bramall Lane’s first team squad following its miserable start to the League One season.

“I think we’ve shown a little bit more steel of late,” Taylor said. “We’ve got the attitude that we’re fighting for our lives and each other out there so hopefully that shows.

“That’s definitely the feeling there is behind the scenes. There’s a bit more determination now with a new manager coming in.

“We’re creating chances. Everyone is going hunting after the ball.

“Even if we were losing, I think the fans would appreciate it if we fought until the end and got a 94th minute equaliser. You saw at Coventry City recently, even though we didn’t win, because they gave us a standing ovation when we came off the pitch.”

Trailing three nil at the interval, United’s second-half display at Sixfields has been described as a turning point in the club’ fortunes. They travel to Greenhous Meadow 20th in the table but unbeaten since eventually succumbing 3-2 to Steven Pressley’s side.

Morgan, who took charge on a caretaker basis 48 hours before that match, relinquished control following Clough’s appointment 10 days ago.

“Morgs is this club through and through,” Taylor said. “He will back you to the hilt and he’ll give you everything providing you do the same in return.

“I definitely feel we’ve worked a lot harder lately. Well, perhaps not exactly, but that’s the way it feels.

“One thing is for certain. There has definitely been a change.

“So what we have to do now is guarantee that hard work because we are still aren’t where we want to be in the table.”
