SHEFFIELD United’s League One clash with Crawley Town, scheduled for tonight, has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Due to the heavy snow in Sheffield, a pitch inspection was held this afternoon at Bramall Lane and the match officials have deemed the playing surface unplayable.

In a statement, United said: “Local referee Anthony Tankard conducted the pitch inspection, watched by Crawley boss Richie Barker and Blades groundsman, Glenn Nortcliffe.

“The official, who was in touch with tonight’s scheduled referee Nigel Miller throughout, called the game off citing player safety as the main concern. The thawed snow has forced the pitch to be waterlogged and further inclement weather is forecast in the Sheffield area.”

A new date has yet to be arranged. Tickets purchased for the match will be valid for the new date.
