Florent Cuvelier has scored another victory in his battle for full fitness, writes James Shield.
The Belgian midfielder completed 70 minutes of Sheffield United’s U21 Premier League Cup match against Stoke City just 48 hours after making a cameo appearance during the club’s FA Cup success over Plymouth Argyle.
Nigel Clough, the United manager, revealed Cuvelier could be set for a prominent role in his starting eleven over the coming weeks after impressing coaching staff behind the scenes following an 11 month absence through injury.
“We’ve got some big challenges ahead of us and that’s another reason why it’s so good to see Flo back,” he said. “He could be very important to us because we’ve liked what we’ve seen from him recently.”
United were beaten 5-4 on penalties by City at Moss Rose on Monday evening after the match, which also featured Kieran Wallace and Che Adams, finished goalless at the end of extra-time.
Cuvelier was replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the closing stages.
