Sheffield United: Danny throws down the gauntlet

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson has challenged his team to grab League One by the scruff of the neck, writes James Shield.

United enter tomorrow’s visit of MK Dons second in the table and having won five of their last six games.

Although only seven points separate leaders Doncaster Rovers from seventh placed AFC Bournemouth, Wilson said: “It’s tight but one team will pull away. If we can replicate the same form, win four out of our next five, then we’ll give ourselves a great chance.

“It won’t be easy. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves and we know how tough doing that will be. But we are capable of doing it and whoever does pull away at this stage is going to be very difficult to catch.”

Wilson, who warned Dons will be “on a real high” following their midweek victory over Rovers, added: “Psychologically, because things are so close now, if you can put some daylight between yourselves and the rest then it will have a big effect on others.

“You always hear people saying about Manchester United that ‘We won’t get anything there’ and if we can get in the same position I’ll be delighted.

“If we can make the rest think they’re chasing second then that will make a real difference.

“But, once again, we’re not getting carried away by saying that. It’s just stating a fact.”

Dons climbed to 12th when they beat Rovers and Wilson said: “They’ll believe they can get back in the race.”
