DANNY Wilson is looking forward to getting the ‘tin hat’ treatment at Bristol Rovers.

Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, boasts a four-year spell in charge of Bristol City on his footballing CV and admitted that association with Ashton Gate guarantees a hot reception during tomorrow’s FA Cup first round tie at the Memorial Stadium.

But Wilson said: “It’s fair to say that I’m going to get a little bit of ear ache from their fans.

“I got it all the time from them when I lived down there but it was never ever nasty and I like a bit of banter as much as anyone.

“It does provide a little bit of extra spice for me but Rovers won’t need any extra incentive to beat us.

“This might not be a game for the purist but it should be a real humdinger.

“It’s all about getting through, rolling-up your sleeves and having a go. They are the underdogs and we are the scalp they want to take. There won’t be any sign of complacency from us and if I did see any then that person wouldn’t play but that’s never been the case.

“Whenever there’s a 50/50 challenge we’ve got to be committed to winning it because we don’t want to give our opponents any encouragement.”

Insisting the FA Cup is still “a magical competition,” Wilson added: “Rovers have got nothing to lose and the ‘Gas’ fans are, I’ve got to say, very loud and very loyal.

“People would be surprised how supportive they are of their team because Bristol might not get the same numbers as Sheffield but it’s still a very committed football city.

“We’ll take our usual big contingent of supporters down there so it should be a great atmosphere.”
