Sheffield United’s game with Peterborough, scheduled for tonight, was postponed this morning.

Heavy rain has made the Bramall Lane pitch unplayable, the club said, following a referee inspection, by Craig Pawson at 9.30am.

“There are several areas of the pitch that are causing real concern” the official said.

“The pitch is very heavy already and with the forecast for more rain we have to think about the safety of the players and officials. There is no way this game could start.

“There is standing water already and with the forecast in mind conditions are not going to improve.”

A new date for the League One clash will be announced later.
