SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson has warned his club’s League One rivals that John Cofie can take the division by storm next term.

Cofie, an England youth international, is poised to finalise a season-long loan from Manchester United shortly, having been introduced to his new team mates earlier this week.

And, despite the striker’s inexperience at first- team level, Wilson insisted he possess the qualities required to terrorise opposition defences.

“John has got all the attributes,” Wilson said. “He’s strong, he’s got pace and power. It’s rare that you find all of that in one player.

“John is young and he’s learning his trade so he won’t get everything right in every single game.

“We’ve got to be patient with him. Will he start from the off? We’ll just have to see but I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t. You’ve got to take the plunge some time.”

Cofie, who was the subject of a £250,000 bid from Liverpool before joining the former Premier League champions aged just 14, finished last season with Old Trafford’s sister club, Royal Antwerp.

Wilson added: “John’s got the enthusiasm and exemplary attitude that you would expect from one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s players.

“We know that he’ll run his socks off and he’s clearly got goals in him, although, like anyone, he’ll need to work hard.”
