SHEFFIELD UNITED: Lane boss eyes John Egan deal No 2

SHEFFIELD United could attempt to bring John Egan back to Bramall Lane as manager Danny Wilson prepares to revamp his first-team squad.

Egan, the Sunderland centre-half, spent four weeks on loan with the League One club last season before returning to the Stadium of Light during the closing stages of the campaign.

A combination of factors prevented the teenager from establishing himself in United’s starting 11.

But, with Wilson known to view Egan as player of considerable potential, the Republic of Ireland youth international would be interested in negotiating a return providing opportunities at first-team level are forthcoming.

Frank Barlow, Wilson’s assistant, is believed to have played an instrumental role in bringing Egan to South Yorkshire, having been previously employed as Sunderland’s chief scout.

Martin O’Neill, Wilson’s counterpart on Wearside, is expected to allow the 19-year-old to negotiate another temporary transfer.

However, O’Neill could request guarantees that the defender enjoys regular action at senior level.

Wilson is expected to overhaul his playing staff as United prepare for a second season in the third tier.
