Matt Done has warned those calling time on Sheffield United’s bid for the Championship they are betraying the principles which convinced him to join Nigel Clough’s side.

The centre-forward, who enters tomorrow’s League One fixture at Walsall having scored six goals in nine games, told The Star that he and his team mates are prepared to win ‘by any means necessary’ during the final 11 matches of the League One campaign.

“The mentality we have got to have for the rest of the season is to fight for everything,” Done said.

“If it is not going our way and we are not playing as well as we would like to, we can’t go into our shells.

“We have got to roll up our sleeves and try and win a bit ugly. Do whatever it takes.

“We’re not giving up on anything.

“We don’t moan or feel sorry for ourselves.

“That’s not what we do here. It’s not what we are about.

“The way I play, I never give up regardless of what time it is on the pitch. I am not going to give anyone a minute as a goal can come from nothing.”

United remained fifth in the table after drawing with Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Neal Bishop edged the hosts in front against the run of play before Kieron Freeman, who was later substituted due to injury, equalised.

Done, who left Rochdale last month after helping them gain promotion last term, added: “Even the best teams in the world can’t play well every game.

“You look at the amount of games we are playing at the minute but the important thing is getting the results and not losing.

“Now is just about rolling your sleeves up.

“It’s March and pitches are bobbly and conditions aren’t good.

“It’s all about winning three points at this stage of the season and trying to get as high as we possibly can.”
