Danny Wilson has challenged his players to help Sheffield United supporters recreate the spirit of Prenton Park when Carlisle visit Bramall Lane today.

Over two thousand fans made the journey from South Yorkshire to Tranmere Rovers last weekend and their faith was repaid when Tony McMahon’s strike, which took a wicked deflection off Ash Taylor, delivered the visitors 18th victory of the League One campaign. United, now fifth in the table, contest the first of their five remaining home games against Greg Abbott’s side this afternoon and Wilson said: “Make no mistake, those supporters can help to get us across the line. In that type of mood they can drag us across it.

“I thought they were absolutely brilliant. They really were and I thought my lads were brilliant with them too the way they went over at the end. You could see how much they appreciated the backing they got and it was right that it was acknowledged.

“If we can replicate that again then it’s going to make a massive difference.”

Echoing his manager’s sentiments, McMahon also claimed the noise United’s following generated had been instrumental in helping them deliver what Wilson later described as “a very professional display”.
