He manages the first and original United, rather than one which changed its name over a decade later – and Chris Wilder’s record at Bramall Lane favours very comparably indeed compared to Jose Mourinho, the current Manchester United manager.

Statistics revealed by Twitter account Goodbrand Stats show that Wilder has lost just 25 of his last 121 league games as manager of Northampton Town and Sheffield United, while Mourinho has lost the same number from his last 118 league games in charge of what Goodbrand describes as “powerhouses” Chelsea and the Red Devils.
