Chris Wilder was less than impressed with the performance of referee Darren Deadman as his side grabbed a point late on at Scunthorpe.
Deadman sent off United's opening goalscorer Basham for what appeared an innocuous challenge at first glance, but later gave United a penalty as Billy Sharp levelled matters at 2-2 late on.
But Wilder believed there were inconsistencies in the performance of Deadman, who frustrated fans of both sides at Glanford Park.
"I think it was two honest boys going for the ball," Wilder said.
"Fans and punters want to see competition, and players making contact with each other I think. That's the nature of football and I'm disappointed for Bash, as he didn't deserve that.
"If that's a red, then the challenge on Bash by their centre half is a red too."
Wilder also hinted they may not appeal the decision. Watch his thoughts in full in the video above.
