Chesterfield have received a £50,000 boost for their academy.
Football League chairman were told at last week’s Annual General Meeting in Portugal they’d each be given the extra investment into their academy systems.
Spireites chief executive Chris Turner, who went to the meeting, said: “It’s a massive help to running the academy.
He described Chesterfield’s youth department as “the best in the Football League” and added: “We’ve got great opportunities in front of us to expand and improve.”
Chesterfield’s new academy director, Gerry Carr, commented: “It’s a great boost for us because, ultimately, what we’d like to do is have the academy self-sufficient so that it’s not actually costing the club any money.
“We’ve still got to get our heads down, do a lot of fund-raising and get sponsorship in.
“There are great fund-raising efforts going on here from people on the inside and outside of the club.”
Carr has been at Chesterfield for just over a month.
