Rotherham United suffered a setback in their push for Championship survival as they were beaten at home by struggling Charlton Athletic.
The Millers trailed 2-1 at the break, and Simon Makienok applied the killer blow on 69 minutes with his second goal of the match.
Jonson Clarke-Harris blazed a penalty over the bar four minutes later to end any real hope of a Rotherham fightback.
The Addicks hadn't won since November and this defeat was a big blow for Neil Redfearn's side, although they remain out of the relegation places.
The Millers were a pale shadow of the side which had won three of their last four home matches, lacking quality in the final third and giving up possession too easily.
Visiting substitute Ademola Lookman raced clear to pour further salt on Rotherham wounds deep into time added on.
New boy Andrew Shinnie was introduced as a second-half substitute and showed some promising touches, but this was a poor and frustrating afternoon for Rotherham who were desperately out of sorts.
Charlton took a fourth-minute lead when Rotherham messed up a throw-in and a quick break saw Zakarya Bergdich speed down the left and cross for Makienok to steer home.
The Millers needed only seven more minutes to equalise when Chris Burke capitalised on good play by Paul Green and Danny Ward to fire in a goal from the right on his home debut.
After that, the home side had plenty of territory against opponents were who suspect at the back, but paid the price for too many poor final balls when Igor Vetokele tapped in for a 2-1 Charlton lead on the stroke of half-time.
Boss Redfearn had named loan signing Shinnie among the substitutes as he kept faith as far as possible with the side that had drawn 2-2 at Cardiff City last week.
The only change to the starting line-up saw Farrend Rawson come in at centre-half for Aimen Belaid who yesterday failed a fitness test on his groin injury.
The Millers had plenty of the "poke" Redfearn has been looking for on their bench, with attackers Shinnie, Luciano Becchio, Clarke-Harris and Matt Derbyshire all ready to enter the fray.
But, sadly, they lacked it where it really mattered ... out on the pitch.
