Chesterfield completed their pre-season programme with a win at Victoria Park which sets them up nicely for next Saturday’s home derby kick-off with Barnsley.

Chesterfield lined up in all red for their visit to Hartlepoool.

Bingham was caught offside in an early attack for the Spireites.

Then a Gardner free kick for the Spireites went straight into Pools keeper Bartlett’s hands. O’Shea had been brought down.

Bartlett was tested again by Garner’s cross after O’Shea found Ebanks-Blake for Chesterfield.

The Spireites forced two corners in a minute, Bartlett claiming the first after a fumble but the second creating the best chance of the game after 26 minutes, the keeper saving a hook shot from Ebanks-Blake after Hird fed him.

Chesterfield threatened again but Ariyibi was just beaten to Jones’ cross to leave the half-time score.

Dan Jones was in lively form for the visitors but they couldn’t make the breakthrough until the 75th minute with a controlled low shot by Sam Morsey after a clever back-flick from Ebanks Blake.

Starting team: Lee, Jones, Hird. Morsy, DEvatt, Gardner, Ebanks-Blake, O’Shea, Ariyibi, Banks, Talbot.

Attendance: 1,269 with 54 from Chesterfield.
