Former Sheffield Wednesday star John Sheridan is set to sign a new deal as Chesterfield prepare to celebrate promotion from League Two, writes Alan Biggs.
Sheridan has been offered a choice between either a three or five year contract, the Telegraph understands. He still has a year to run on his current terms but the Spireites have moved to reward him for the team’s spectacular success at the new b2net Stadium. And it is fitting that today is the 20th anniversary of his League Cup-winning goal for the Owls against Manchester United at Wembley.
Sheridan’s stock is climbing and it is no surprise to see him being linked with other clubs, including Doncaster, where Sean O’Driscoll seems to be approaching a career crossroads.
Sheridan’s table-toppers could be promoted by other results ahead of their game at Oxford on Saturday where the maximum they need is a point.
