The first games of 2015 produced a goal feast with a 102 scored across the 19 matches in the Premier and Division One.
Promotion chasing Shaw Lane Aquaforce were the day’s top scorers routing hapless Maltby Main 11-0 at Muglet Lane.
Joe Thornton opened the scoring after just six minutes with Lee Morris doubling the lead with the first of his five goals from a 20th minute corner. Just a minute later Stefan Holt nodded in the third and a poor back pass from Maltby’s Nicky Darker let in Shane Kelsey for goal number four, with Morris getting his second on the stroke of half-time after rounding Ben Brunt in the Miners goal.
Morris completed his hat-trick on 48 minutes before scoring his fourth three minutes later. Thornton then grabbed his second looping the ball over Brunt with Morris making it 9-0 on 66 minutes. Matt Thornhill took the tally into double figures two minutes later with Thornton grabbing his hat-trick to complete the scoring 10 minutes from time as Shaw Lane moved to third in the Premier Division table.
There seems to be no stopping Staveley Miners Welfare at the moment, as Heanor Town found to their cost, with James Colliver’s side twice coming from behind to run out 3-2 winners at Inkersall Road.
It saw Staveley take their winning league run to an incredible 11 games, an impressive record at any level of football, and move into second spot in the table.
Matt Richards tucked away a cross to give the visitors a 17th minute lead. Jahmal Smith equalised four minutes later but Courey Grantham restored Heanor’s lead before the half hour mark after running onto a ball over the defence.
There was just 12 minutes left when Ellis Wall thumped home a cross into the box to put Staveley back on level terms once more. And it got even better for the home side with two minutes remaining when Smith caught a defender in possession, ran on and coolly slotted past the advancing keeper to turn the game on its head.
It’s now just one defeat in six league games for Handsworth Parramore after Peter Duffield’s men eased to a 5-1 home win over Thackley, with substitute Bruno Holden marking his debut by racing clear to thump home the fifth before Thackley netted a consolation effort in stoppage time.
Parkgate ended a run of six games without a win in all competitions with a 2-0 away success at Athersley Recreation, with goals from Ryan Johnson and Alex Varley’s close range header.
Worksop Town couldn’t turn their dominance into goals at Garforth Town which proved costly as the home side scored late on to send the Tigers down to a 1-0 defeat.
Armthorpe Welfare went down 5-2 at home against high-riding Cleethorpes Town despite a spirited performance, and Retford United slumped to a third straight defeat - going down 4-1 at Pickering Town.
In Division One, Hallam stretched their unbeaten run to four games with an excellent away point from a 3-3 draw at promotion chasing Hemsworth MW.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic twice came from behind to secure a point in a 2-2 draw at Knaresborough Town. Danny Cawley hit both the Briggers goals with the second arriving four minutes from time.
Rossington Main won for the first time in seven games at home with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Eccleshill United, Ben Clark hitting a double.
AFC Emley maintained their three point cushion at the top of the table beating Louth Town 7-2 at the Welfare ground. In the Evo-Stik League Buxton were beaten 2-1 at home by Stamford, while Matlock Town went down 2-0 at home against Grantham Town.
