Stocksbridge Park Steels made it a winning start to their Evo-Stik Premier Division campaign beating Droylsden 3-1 at Bracken Moor last night.
Steels got off to a good start with two goals inside the opening 11 minutes. Nathan Joynes fired them ahead with scuffed shot that went in off the post from 12 yards following a Chris Bettney cross from the right.
Joynes doubled his and Stocksbridge’s tally four minutes later with superb strike from the edge of the box into the keeper’s bottom left corner.
The Steels could have been further ahead before the break with Bettney seeing his first time volley flash inches wide of the far post.
Stocksbridge added a third ten minutes after the break when James Knowles made a run into the box, the ball fell to Liam Royles whose effort went in via the post.
Droylsden pulled one back with 16 minutes to go through substitute Lee Healey.
