Steels visit fellow Division East rivals Pickering Town on Sunday (3pm) in the preliminary round looking for a first win in six matches.

Whilst welcoming the Trophy tie, boss Chris Hilton says he is all to aware his side needs to find the winning formula again, “Its a breather from the league but we need to put a win on the board. Confidence is not a problem and I believe that once we get a couple of wins under our belts this team will push on.

“We’ve got enough quality in the side to put a run of results together. We are creating chances but not putting them away and seem to get punished for every little error we make. We’re just not putting it together in both boxes”

Hilton feels that when your struggling to get a result often things don’t seem to go right for you and pointed to the 2-0 Belper defeat as a typical example. “I don’t think the Belper game was a 2-0 result. Although we didn’t do enough to win it, I thought we were worth a point.

"We missed a penalty when it was 0-0, if that had gone in then it would have been a different outcome.

“Their first goal is a free-kick he’s meant to cross into the box and it goes straight in. The second our keeper hasn’t got enough on punch and again their player is just trying to hook the ball on and it drops in our net. On top of that, we had enough chances to had scored a couple of goals ourselves.

“But it's gone now we have to move on the next game, knuckle down and work hard. We need to start winning games and quickly because otherwise, I will have the chairman knocking on my door.”

Meanwhile, Stocksbridge have been handed a walkover into the third round of the Sheffield Senior Cup after opponents Frecheville couldn’t field a team in midweek. “I’m little disappointed the game was off because it gave us an opportunity to get a win under our belts, but on the flip side of the coin, I’m happy we’re through to the next round,” said Hilton.

Steels will be without Luke Mangham and Todd Jordan through injury while Tyler Williams is suspended.

Frickley Athletic take on West Division strugglers Skelmersdale United in a tie that has been switched to Westfield Lane due to Skelemrsdale’s ground-sharing with Presot Cables, who were also drawn at home. Frickley go into the tie boosted by a late 2-1 victory over Spalding United that ended a run of four defeats on the spin.
