Sheffield FC took another Evo-Stik Premier Division scalp, beating Buxton 1-0 in their delayed second qualifying round FA Trophy tie at Dronfield.
There was an early chance for Sheffield when a Ben Turner cross just evaded in the incoming Zeph Thomas, while at the other end Craig King saw shot turned behind for a corner from which Ash Palmer headed just wide.
Club edged in front on 25 minutes when James Gregory did well to get in a cross for Thomas to turn the ball in.
Joel Purkiss wasn’t far away to doubling the lead with a well struck shot but back came Buxton with Matt Thornhill seeing his volley saved by Rob Poulter while Lee Morris, with a ball across the area, just missed the incoming Keiran Lugsdan.
Club started the second half on the front foot and it took a brilliant save from veteran keeper Andy Warrington to keep out a Warren Burrell close range effort.
Buxton went in search of an equaliser and substitute Mark Reed wasn’t far away with a header that dropped just over the bar. Sheffield though always remained a threat and it took another good save from Warrington to prevent Thomas making the tie safe.
Club thought they had got a second when Thomas scrambled the ball home but a raised flag ruled the goal out.
