Owls drawn at 7-0 Cup conquerors City again as Blades also travel to Premier opposition in FA Cup third round; Chesterfield’s place in doubt after FA charge; Rotherham and Rovers at home - and Barnsley if they win replay

Sheffield Wednesday have amazingly been drawn away to Premier League champions Manchester City for the second time in a cup compeition this season.

The Owls, thrashed 7-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium in the Carling Cup earlier this season after holding them 0-0 at half-time, must now repeat the journey in the FA Cup third round next month.

Sheffield United must also travel to face Premier League opposition, having been paired with Queens Park Rangers.

Chesterfield’s position in the third round was thrown into doubt before the draw after the FA charged them with fielding an ineligible player, Georg Margreitter in Saturday’s 1-0 second round win at MK Dons on Saturday. But if they do keep their place they must travel to play Scunthorpe United or Worcester.

There were home draws for Rotherham United and Doncaster Rovers, against Bournemouth and Bristol City respectively.

Barnsley will host Middlesbrough if they beat Chester City in their replay next week.
