The Star’s Sheffield Wednesday reporter Dom Howson gives his views on Saturday’s 2-1 defeat for Sheffield Wednesday against Bolton Wanderers at Hillsborough.

Viewpoint

Wednesday’s home form remains a major concern for boss Stuart Gray and is threatening to undermine their top-six challenge. Two defensive lapses in concentration and a poor decision by the officials cost them dearly against Bolton.

Hero

It is imperative Wednesday hang on to Keiren Westwood during the January transfer window. The Republic of Ireland international demonstrated his shot-stopping ability, making three great saves to foil Craig Davies twice and Darren Pratley.

Key moment

Stevie May’s disallowed goal in added-on time. Should not have been chalked off and would have kept the Owls’ unbeaten run in the Championship going.

Ref watch

Graham Scott. The Oxfordshire official upset both sides and sets of supporters with some of his decision-making. Was right to send off Sam Hutchinson for two clumsy tackles. Also booked Westwood, Lee and Maghoma.

Managers’ view

Stuart Gray

“Bolton started better than us and we gifted them two goals. We didn’t defend them properly. It’s frustrating from my point of view because we are not a team who concede stupid goals. “It’s a horrible feeling when you lose. We have to make sure we start well when we play Birmingham and put them under pressure and not the other way around.

Neil Lennon

“That’s our best away win of the season. It could have been a more comfortable if we had taken our chances. To come away from home and play as well as we did is very pleasing. We got off to a great start and played some super football. There were a few decisions for both teams that were debatable, to say the least, but I don’t want to talk about the referee because it was a very good game of football.”
