Left-back Daniel Pudil could return to action against Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend.
Pudil has sat-out Wednesday’s last three fixtures because of a thigh injury he sustained in their remarkable come-from-behind win at home to Bristol City earlier this month.
The 31-year-old, who joined the Owls on a permanent basis over the summer following a successful loan stint last term, was “very close” to featuring in Tuesday’s away success at lowly Blackburn Rovers.
Head coach Carlos Carvalhal told The Star: “Daniel was very close to being involved against Blackburn. He is training now but he doesn’t have 100 per cent confidence to play long balls at the moment. Let’s see how he reacts in the next few days.”
Carvalhal chose not to risk Pudil at Ewood Park as he feared the 31-year-old might aggravate the problem again.
Wednesday will be hoping Sam Hutchinson makes a speedy recovery from the back problem he suffered in midweek. The former Chelsea youngster was taken off on the hour mark and replaced by Glenn Loovens.
It also remains unclear whether Lucas Joao will be available for selection for the visit of high-flying Albion. Joao (groin) has not played since the 1-1 draw at Brentford before the last international break. His solitary strike came in the Owls’ first round EFL Cup defeat to Cambridge United.
“Lucas still has a little pain when he shoots,” admitted Carvalhal.
