SHEFFIELD Wednesday are making offers to four first-team squad players whose contracts run out next month.
They are Stephen Bywater, Mark Beevers, Jermaine Johnson and Arron Jameson.
The club decided not to offer new deals to Clinton Morrison, Chris Sedgwick, Richard O’Donnell and Jon Otsemobor, and they are being released.
The futures of Bywater, Beevers, Johnson and Jameson will depend on their response to the proposed terms.
Bywater, Beevers and Johnson have expressed a wish to stay.
Manager Dave Jones has thanked the departing players for their efforts. “Promotion is a great achievement and they’ve been part of it, but I did say last week that after elation comes dejection when some players go,” he said.
“That’s part of football. You have to progress. The squad will be strengthened.”
The Owls have made an inquiry to Reading about loan star Michail Antonio and have been linked with Wolves’ former Cardiff centre-half, Roger Johnson.
Brentford are believed to be interested in signing Morrison, who spent the last six weeks of the season on loan with them.
Wednesday are adopting commonplace practice in releasing some of their out-of-contract players and making offers to others.
Morrison, Sedgwick and O’Donnell were not in Jones’ first-choice 11, and Otsemobor has been injury-plagued.
Bywater, Beevers and Johnson figured in the promotion run-in, though Johnson lost his starting place for the last two games.
Jameson and O’Donnell have been understudies to Bywater and Nicky Weaver, who remains under contract.
