DAVE Jones believes that family matters may have undermined the performances of Michail Antonio and Giles Coke in the 0-0 draw at Birmingham.

Jones revealed after the game that the pair had distractions in the build-up to it.

The Wednesday boss also suspects that the 10-day break that preceded the match did not enhance the club’s chances as the team lost a bit of precision around the opposition’s box.

He explained: “As much as we needed the break, and you want to give players the chance to get over knocks and bruises, it showed that really players still need to continue playing.

“I’ve never seem Michail with cramp before. And there have been a lot of things going on. Cokey’s wife is in hospital and due to have a baby. Michail’s little ‘un was in hospital for some minor surgery. We’ve had all that to contend with, as well.

“In and out of hospital, up and down the motorway - maybe we saw the effect of that on one or two of them.

“Up until a couple of days earlier, we didn’t know whether Cokey was going to play.

“If we had played on Saturday, we would probably have had four players missing.”

Reda Johnson (ankle) and Anthony Gardner (thigh) missed Tuesday’s game but Johnson is close to fitness and could be in contention for the visit of Crystal Palace.
