There was a general agreement that Wednesday night against Nottingham Forest was a bad one at the office
Wednesday looked lethargic and heavy footed. Brains not connecting to feet.
I was pleased for Steven Fletcher. He’s deserved a goal for the effort he’s put in this season. He’s the antithesis of Lucas Joao, hard-working but doesn’t produce the vital goals. If you could combine those two it would make a hell of a player.
There has been a bit of talk over the last few weeks from fans about ‘carrying’ players. Ones that aren’t contributing as much as we know they can. ‘Passengers,’ as I’ve seen them described.
Morgan Fox and Liam Palmer get a lot of criticism for not being good enough at this level. Making a case for Palmer, he struggled at the beginning of the season but who has improved under Luhukay. His stamina seems to have improved along with his positional play.
Fox hasn’t had much game time this season but he does struggle when called to action. The blunt assessment is that he would be third choice left back after Matt Penney and Pudil.
With Penney in the team we haven’t lost a game that he has started this season, between Pudil and Fox we haven’t won one. Rotation is all well and good but not always the best option.
Post contract Adthe Nuhiu’s performances have declined. He has looked laboured and lazy. If he’s carrying an injury, don’t play him. If he’s not then he needs to try harder.
The big disappointment for me this season has been Adam Reach. Last season he was the glue that held an ailing team together, putting in star performances, taking charge on the field as captain and he just looked a better player.
This season Reach seems to struggle with the basics like keeping possession and anticipating passes. He looks like an exhausted man.
Wednesday night was hopefully a blip.
