Wednesday have confirmed that captain Anthony Gardner has ruptured his Achilles tendon and will be out for months.

The centre half is due to have an operation in London on Monday.

Manager Dave Jones said: “It’s a blow to the boy and the team because he was playing very well and had a good start to the season.

“We wish him all the very best in his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back as soon as possible.”

Gardner was carried off after suffering the injury in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.
