Sheffield Wednesday have suffered a defensive blow as they prepare to take on South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Centre-back Michael Turner will miss the derby, having failed to shake off a knee problem he sustained against Hull City last weekend.

It means head coach Carlos Carvalhal is likely to stick with club captain Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees at the heart of the Owls' rearguard.

Speaking to the press corps this lunch-time, Carvalhal said: "He is out of the game. I don't know the extension or how long he will be out but he won't be in the squad."

Carvalhal also confirmed winger Modou Sougou will be sidelined for three to four weeks after he dislocated his shoulder in Tuesday's goalless draw at Queens Park Rangers. The Frenchman was stretchered off and taken to hospital after being brought down by Clint Hill.

"I don't know exactly about time it will probably be three to four weeks," he said. "The recovery period depends on the individual but all people are different. Some players recover faster than others. Hopefully he [Sougou] will be ready early."

Marco Matias (groin) remains a big doubt as the Owls look to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
