Sheffield Wednesday: Jones faces selection headache

Dave Jones faces a selection dilemma as Jose Semedo begins his three-match ban.

The Wednesday boss must reconsider his personnel and tactics for Saturday’s derby at Barnsley.

Semedo has been doing a sterling job in away games as a defensive midfielder in a 4-5-1 formation.

But David Prutton, arguably the only other player suited to the role, is out for weeks with an ankle injury.

Liam Palmer could perhaps be adapted to the job though he is maybe better known for going forward.

Another option would be a switch to 4-4-2 and an Oakwell call-up for Atdhe Nuhiu, who has been playing alongside Matty Fryatt up front in home games but on the bench away.

Nuhiu played yesterday for the Under 21s in a 3-3 draw away to Leeds.

The Owls trailed 2-0 and 3-1, and Leeds’ former Reading striker Noel Hunt scored a hat-trick, but they hit back with two goals from Caolan Lavery and one from Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.

The FA rejected an appeal against Semedo’s sending-off at Bolton by Premier League ref Chris Foy for a tackle on Jay Spearing.
