Dave Jones is looking for Michail Antonio to play his way back to form.
The winger is believed to be one of the players to whom the Owls boss was referring when he spoke of some still “fighting their game.”
But he credits Antonio with playing a big part in the goal at Brighton and says that it would be wrong to leave certain players out of the team: “He got us the goal at Brighton: it was sheer pace and determination when he kept the ball in play, then hooked it across to Jeremy (Helan), who found Matty (Fryatt) in the box.
“Some players you have to leave out to shake them up and get them doing what they’re capable of; some you have to play to get them back to where they were.
“With certain players, if you leave them out then you might be doing more harm than good.”
Antonio has played in every game this season.
Jones also believes that players can never let up: “We have lots of players here who have to work hard to maintain what they’ve got. It’s the ones who step off it who might find they struggle on Saturday, because they haven’t worked hard enough during the training; we haven’t got many of those; everybody wants to do well; they want to learn and get better.”
Jones wants lessons to be learned from the Brighton game: “If we hadn’t made the error near the end, we’d had come away with a 1-0 win. We allowed the other team to get back in it. We have to eradicate that.”
Ipswich striker and former Wednesday loan player David McGoldrick faces the Owls today as the Championship Player of the Month for September, after scoring four goals in the month.
