REDA Johnson has been been told to carry on resting his injured foot and will miss next Friday’s clash with Leeds, at least.

It dashes any hopes of a swift comeback for the Benin international who began the season as Sheffield Wednesday’s first-choice left back and has scored three goals in his four Championship starts.

He has had a another scan, and a further period of rest has been prescribed, with the foot currently immobilised in a cast to aid healing.

Manager Dave Jones said: “He needs a course of rest and there’s not a great deal we can do to treat him.”

Johnson has been out since September 19 and missed five games. Joe Mattock could continue at left back.

Giles Cokes remains under treatment for the foot problem that led to his return from Swindon for assessment; he is due to remain on loan with the Robins until January. “Giles’s foot became sore while he was there - but it needs managing properly,“ said Jones.

The final stage of Rhys McCabe’s move has been completed, with the Owls and Rangers agreeing terms over the midfielder.

Rangers sought compensation after McCabe refused to transfer his contract to the new Ibrox company and joined the Owls. FIFA ruled that international clearance be granted after the Scottish FA tried to withhold it.

Ibrox chief executive Charles Green says: “Wednesday have acted in good faith and recognised our rights. We wish them every success, and while we were disappointed Rhys decided his future lies away from Rangers, we wish him well.”
