Sheffield Wednesday: Owls aim for last laugh

Michail Antonio believes that Wednesday can have the last laugh today as they bid for three points that would make them mathematically safe.

The winger tells of a relaxed, even jokey, mood in the dressing room at times but the club are determined to avenge a 2-1 home defeat by Bournemouth.

It was one of the worst performances of Stuart Gray’s reign and Eddie Howe’s team will strive for a double today.

But while the ninth-placed Cherries are under pressure to keep their play-off hopes alive, Wednesday, 10 points above the bottom three and with four games left, will tackle their task worry-free and aim to play without inhibitions.

Antonio said: “After coming up from League One, in the first year you’re looking to just stay up, but Bournemouth have managed to do better than that.

“We’re not safe. We need to be mathematically safe; the sooner we do it, the better for us.

“We’re not under as much pressure. We’re 10 points from the relegation zone and all we need is one win to be safe.

“Everyone is more chilled, more relaxed, having more jokes in training.

“Everyone is just hoping to get as high as possible in the league so we can start well next year.”

Boss Stuart Gray said: “Will Bournemouth make the play-offs? Know knows? there are four games to go (five for Wigan); there’s Bournemouth, Ipswich, Reading, Brighton all pushing for that spot. Nobody seems to want to cement themselves in that sixth spot.

“Eddie will want to do the double over us; we want to go there and give a good account of ourselves and not concede goals. We want to spoil their party.”
