Owls boss Dave Jones is expected to significantly beef up his forward line this summer as he aims to stablise the club in the Championship.

Following Chris O’Grady’s move to Barnsley last night, Wednesday now possess just three recognised strikers in Gary Madine, Chris Maguire and youngster Caolan Lavery.

From the side who finished strongly last season to preserve their Championshop status, Jones can no longer call upon loan players Leroy Lita and Steve Howard, who have returned to their parent clubs. It is thought Jones is considering bringing Swansea City striker Lita back to Hillsborough on a permanent basis.

Jones may have more funds at his disposal to add to his squad, with O’Grady leaving for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £300,000. The Nottingham-born player, who notched six goals while on loan with the Reds last season, has agreed a two-year deal at Oakwell. He registered 13 goals in 60 appearances in all competitions for the Owls.

“I’m looking to continue where I left off last season and get goals,” said O’Grady. “I’ll set some short-term targets, attain them and then set some more.”
