SHEFFIELD Wednesday have signed Hartlepool United striker Steve Howard until the end of the season.
The 36-year-old frontman will wear shirt number 29 for Wednesday and is eligible to feature on Saturday as the Owls face Barnsley at Hillsborough.
Dave Jones, the Wednesday manager, said at his press conference today that he wanted to provide competition in the squad.
He said: “It gives me a good headache to have that I now have players around who all want to be involved.
“I’ve always said that competition is vital to your club. If you bring players in there’ll be one or two long faces, but what it should is say that if you want me shirt you’ll have to earn it.
“That’s the sad part of football that you can pick 11, but if you have competition in your squad it can’t half help you.”
