SUNDERLAND this afternoon revealed that Connor Wickham’s loan stay with the Owls is at an end.
The Black Cats issued a brief statement saying that he has returned from his loan spell and is available for their home game against Norwich on Sunday.
Wednesday had hoped that the loan could be extended after he made the final appearance of his initial month’s stay against Leicester, and scored the winning goal.
Wednesday manager Dave Jones said: “I’ve been really pleased with Connor during his loan, he was a pleasure to work with and a talented player.
“I’ve spoken with Martin O’Neill and we really wanted Connor to stay but I fully understand that Sunderland have a striker shortage at the moment.
“If it is something we get a chance to look at again, we would certainly like to have him back.”
