Jason Taylor, on target for Rotherham

ROTHERHAM lost at home to Gillingham as Deon Burton scored twice against one of his former clubs.

A long throw saw Rotherham scramble the ball away. But the next long throw saw Gillingham take an 11th minute lead.

Lee hurled it in, it glanced off a group of players and dropped to BURTON who stretched and poked the ball in and couldn’t resist a little celebration in front of the North End.

A few minutes later Rotherham suffered a blow when they lost Sharps.

He went up with Burton but then stayed down on the ground clutching his face. He was led off and very shortly and young O’Connell, on loan from Blackburn, came on.

Rotherham had claims for a penalty. Nardiello sent Ridehalgh moving into the area and he was nudged over from behind by the chasing Payne and the Gillingham man got away with it as the crowd howled.

Then Gillingham continued their perfect smash-and-grab afternoon by going two up on 57 minutes.

Vincelot played the ball into BURTON just outside the area. He had two men around him but he turned skilfully, wriggled his way through and then rolled his effort past Warrington.

Rotherham were back in it in 64 minutes with a tremendous 25 yard strike from TAYLOR following a corner.

Nardiello’s header was a whisker wide before a brilliant Frecklington effort was just off target as the noise levels grew massively.

Vincelot was stretchered off after an aerial challenge from Taylor who was booked and there was a lengthy hold up.

Arnason hooked a chance off target.

O’Connell hit the bar with a header. Odejayi went on as the 11 minutes of stoppage time began.
