Rotherham United boss Steve Evans admits he was forced to make “tough decisions” before the club announced their retained list.

The Millers have offered new deals to skipper Craig Morgan and Ben Pringle, but five players - Richard Brindley, Rob Milsom, Mat Sadler, Matk Bradley and Tony Thompson - have been released.

Evans held meetings yesterday with players, after which the club also announced that goalkeeper Scott Loach and midfielder Conor Newton are available for transfer.

“It has been a long, informative and strange sort of day,” said Evans. “As always with football at this stage of the season, some tough decisions have to be made.”

All other members of the first-team squad are already under contract and have been kept on.

Danny Rowe, Jerry Yates and Mason Warren will be with the Millers next season as “contracted young professionals”.

Morgan revealed other clubs have made contact, but says he would love to sign a new Millers deal as long as the terms are right.
