DONCASTER Rovers beat the weather and neighbours Scunthorpe with a 3-2 victory to go five points clear at the top of League One.

While Sheffield United and Brentford shivered, Rovers picked up three precious points.

Rovers could have found themselves doing the chasing at Glanford Park had the persistent winter not intervened.

Heavy snowfall in Sheffield saw the early kick off between United and Brentford chalked off with both eager to cut Rovers’ advantage.

Temperatures may have still been freezing at Glanford Park but Rovers took little warming up.

A superb cross from Cotterill ran through to Husband on the left corner of the box and he hit a fine first time effort which flew straight at Iron keeper Johansen.

Another Cotterill cross caused havoc for Scunthorpe and led to Rovers taking a fifth minute lead.

Johansen did not claim the Welshman’s delivery and the ball fell to MIRFIN who side-footed into his own net from two yards out.

On 39 minutes Scunthorpe’s attempt at an offside trap was woeful as Jones clipped a ball forward, leaving HUME one-on-one and he calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Out of the blue, the hosts pulled a goal back four minutes from the break.

DUFFY curled an excellent free kick into the top corner from 25 yards.

Scunthorpe replaced own goal scorer Mirfin with Canavan at the break. But the switch failed to prevent Rovers calming the nerves of their sizeable away support with a third goal just three minutes into the second half.

The ball was tossed around in the area but came out to Husband who crossed low and BROWN charged in to sidefoot home from close range.Five minutes from time the ball bounced around the area before Duffy sent it on the post with the rebound bouncing off HAWLEY past the helpless Woods.
