CHESTERFIELD need only a point from their last home game to guarantee being crowned League Two champions, writes Graham Walker.

The Spireites saw the title start to drift from them when they could only manage a goalless draw against Torquay on Friday night.

It gave second place rivals Bury, just three points behind, a chance to move ahead of them on goal difference - but they had to win their Saturday home game against promotion chasing Wycombe.

And Bury lost 3-1.

So the title race now goes down to the final day of the season next Saturday - May 7 - but with Chesterfield as favourites.

If the Spireites draw, or win, they cannot be caught and are champions.

Likewise, if Bury fails to win - Chesterfield, already with 83 points, have enough to stay top.

The only scenario which could deprive them of the title is if they lose and Bury win, which would bring them level on 83 points but with a better goal difference of just two.

But the last day looks challenging, with each up against a high-flying Play Off chasing team, both on 68 points- Chesterfield at home to eighth placed Gilliangham and Bury away to Stevenage, who are seventh.
