Rotherham United LFC will be aiming to make it two wins in two following an emphatic start to their league campaign.

The Ladies eventually made light work of opening day visitors Leafield Athletic, winning 5-0, which saw them climb to second in the Midland Women’s Combination Main Division.

Rotherham next host Radcliffe Olympic at home on Sunday (2pm) at Roundwood Sports & Social Club, Green Lane in Rawmarsh.

Despite the scrappy start which saw Rotherham create chances but were unable to convert, the deadlock was finally broken when Klare Osborne collected the ball and attempted an ambitious shot that took a deflection before sailing into the net.

United’s second goal came barely ten minutes after the restart when a collection of errors in the Leafield box saw the ball fall to Fay Cassidy who fired home for 2-0.

Excellent interplay between Amy Pollock and Nat Shaw, provided Shaw with just the keeper to beat and she placed her shot sweetly into the top corner for 3-0.

The fourth, and arguably the best Rotherham goal, came just minutes after a superb Charlotte Whiteley save as Charley Evans collected the ball in midfield and played an inviting pass to the left hand edge of the box which Jade Tilling collected and chipped the Leafield keeper into the top corner.

Kirsty Richardson made the score 5-0 with 20 minutes left to play as Evans again collected the ball in central midfield and gave it to Richardson who struck a powerful effort from 35 yards.

Rotherham United had further chances to extend their lead as Pollock, Shaw, Jess Birtles and Tilling all saw their attempts saved.

Rotherham United LFC: Whiteley, Wilson, Spencer (captain), Birtles, Osborne, Cassidy (Unthank), Richardson, Evans, Tilling (Khan), Pollock, Shaw. Unused substitutes: Cottam.
