Two successes in the bag, now Sheffield Hallam men’s indoor hockey team are out to make it a hat-trick.
They won the Yorkshire Indoor League before Christmas from South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster with a near perfect record of five wins and a draw and last weekend they finished top of the Maxifuel SuperSixes Championship Division Two North.
Now they aim for promotion from Division Two at Lilleshall on Saturday, January 21, although this will be a much tougher challenge as Hallam also face qualifiers from the South competition with just two places up for grabs.
The Supersixes is a national event comprising of a Premier and First Division each with nine teams and Divisions Two North and South with six teams playing each other over one weekend.
Hallam came through with four wins and a draw against Cannock at the Bonus Arena, Hull and took top spot courtesy of a goal difference of plus two, a reversal of the situation last season when Cannock edged it by a single goal.
They opened up with a 10-4 win over Preston with four goals from David Smith, a hat-trick from Phil Roper and others from Will Musgrave 2 and Tom Barrett. Goals from Roper, David Goodfield and Gareth Furlong earned them a 3-3 draw with Cannock which was followed by a 9-2 romp over Havering. Smith notched a hat-trick, Roper grabbed a double and other goals came from Musgrave, Goodfield, Furlong and Barrett.
Humphreys, Goodfield, Roper and Furlong were on target in the 4-3 win over University of Birmingham and Goodfield 2, Barrett, Roper, Humphreys and Musgrave got the goals in the 6-4 win over Ipswich.
